Pratham – Our first home

Recently “we” bought a house. This wasn’t an easy journey for “us” because we not only had to consider the essential factors (i.e. Builder, Budget, etc…) but also a bit trickier factor, the house was for my parents. “We” wanted to ensure the home serves it’s purpose. It is really a BIG DEAL for us! why ? My parents are 60+ (Father physically challenged and 70+ & Mother 60+). They have spent their whole life in a rented 1 room kitchen home. It’s is more than 100 year old house on first floor with daily 2-3 hours of water supply and toilet is on the ground floor. This is the house where I along with my two brothers grew up. THIS HOUSE MADE ME WHO I AM TODAY. Being a parent they did everything they could to empower us to do well in life. Now that I am doing well ( I think! ), the least “we” wanted to do is, reduce their logistic inconvenience. Initial idea was to shift them with “us” where I am stationed but It was a mammoth task for them at this age. We tried our best but wanted to respect their choice/decision. So “we” decided to buy a house for them in my hometown. Like everyone else “we” faced challenges but finally managed to get fit-for-purpose home. “We” decided to show them the house for the first time on their birthday ( YES, They share the same date of birth, different year though ). “We” think It made them happy and satisfied.

Explanation about – “we”, “our”, “us” – I deliberately kept them in “” because this wouldn’t have been possible without unconditional support from my wife. She not only supported but lead the whole effort to large extent. I am really fortunate to have such an amazing life partner to be with.

When we finished all the formalities and finally moved in, I wanted to cherish this for my whole life. So I decided to write a poem to express my gratitude for the home. Below is my expression for our first house.
